Townes Van Zandt - Townes Van Zandt (1969)

Townes Van Zandt was an American singer-songwriter.

Townes Van Zandt's third album was a self-titled release, suggesting perhaps that he saw this as a fresh start. Indeed he had apparently not been too happy with Jack Clement's production on his original debut, and Townes Van Zandt featured four re-recordings of songs originally on For The Sake Of The Song. The new recordings were in more stripped down arrangements, for the most part just utilising acoustic guitar, bass, and minimal percussion. The whole album was much more sparse and dry sounding, with none of the carefully arranged orchestration that featured in places on its predecessors. Indeed it could be said this is the album where he found 'his sound'.

Thank you for continuing to make this stuff available - This Townes album makes it quite clear why he was so well loved. These songs are timeless and consumately crafted. What a great raft of music you have gathered together. Best of luck to you in keeping it afloat.

Thank you for the Townes album. I am a late comer to his music but I love his insight to situations, that may be distorted because of his habits. The music is great and I cannot get enough.

Also a great site, appreciate the work that goes in.

Regards
