Gordon Lightfoot - Lightfoot! (1966)

Gordon Lightfoot is a Canadian singer-songwriter.

Gordon Lightfoot was one of the first successful singer-songwriters to emerge from Canada. He began his recording career by releasing three singles in 1962, which all charted in Canada (the highest being "(Remember Me) I'm The One", at #3). His debut album was released in 1966 (though it had actually been recorded back in '64). It included many of his best-known songs, including "Early Morning Rain", "The Way I Feel" and "Ribbon Of Darkness". Also featured covers of Hamilton Camp's "Pride Of Man", Ewan MacColl's "The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face" and Phil Ochs' "Changes". Lightfoot played acoustic 12-string guitar, and was backed by Bill Lee's acoustic bass. The album brought him widespread recognition as both a songwriter and performer, and gave him another #3 single on the Canadian charts with "Ribbon Of Darkness". Though he hadn't yet made it as a singer outside of Canada, by then his songs were being recorded by various artists including Ian & Sylvia, Peter, Paul & Mary, Marty Robbins, The Kingston Trio and Judy Collins.
