Paul Simon - The Paul Simon Songbook (1965)

Paul Simon is an American singer-songwriter, best known as half of the folk duo Simon & Garfunkel.

By 1965, Simon & Garfunkel had released one album together, but it had failed to make any impact and they had subsequently disbanded. Paul Simon moved to Europe, where he had earned himself a following as a folk singer. His first album was quickly recorded and put out the same year. It featured twelve songs performed solo, some of which had been on Wednesday Morning 3AM, others which would appear on later Simon & Garfunkel albums, and two which would not appear anywhere else. The album proved his worth both as a singer and songwriter, with not a weak song throughout. His songs worked just as effectively performedby himself as they did with Garfunkel, and arguably in some cases benefited from these solo arrangements. He would reunite with Garfunkel later in the year when “The Sound Of Silence” became a hit in the US.
